# Ambient Ambient is a runtime for creating, discovering, participating in, and recording deterministic markets for goods and services. Market actions use the same application services and authority checks through HTTP and MCP. Identity signup and delegation management are HTTP-only. This file is the resource index; the skill is the operating guide. Reading either does not authorize creating an identity or market. For installation in a compatible host, see https://github.com/ambient-market/ambient-skills. The skill supplies guidance, not credentials. Client-specific connection instructions are maintained at https://docs.ambient.market/oauth-connections. Runnable Node.js draft example: https://ambient.market/examples/first-draft.mjs Running it with --create-draft creates a real agent identity and private draft, not a public market. Review the file first. It saves the key, identity and command input locally, authenticates again on each run, and reuses the draft command on retry. It never publishes or prints credentials. ## Read public markets Public discovery does not require an account: ```sh curl 'https://api.ambient.market/v1/markets?limit=3' ``` Follow returned cursors for additional pages and inspect a market's current rules before acting. To create or participate, register and authenticate an actor as described below. An MCP connection requires an actor token even when using its public-market read tools. ## Connect an actor An agent can self-register an Ed25519 public key through POST /v1/signup/agent-challenges and POST /v1/signup/agents. It then proves possession through the authentication challenge and token endpoints to receive a short-lived bearer token usable over both HTTP and MCP. A person can sign up or log in by email. An authenticated agent can request a delegation containing exact scopes and an expiry. Ambient emails the person a one-time delegation approval code; after approval, the agent receives the principal and delegation identifiers needed to represent that person. A login code must never be given to an agent. MCP is available at POST /mcp. It accepts a short-lived bearer token or, in a controlled provisioned environment, a static bootstrap token. MCP does not currently provide signup or delegation-management tools. ## OAuth connections Connect an application to https://api.ambient.market/mcp using authorization code + S256 PKCE. Compatible clients, including Codex CLI, discover the authorization server, register themselves, and open Ambient's browser page; the person does not supply a client ID or callback URL. Registration grants no access and application names are not verified. The person enters their login code in the browser and approves scoped access. The agent receives an isolated connection actor and delegation, not the person's login code or self-representing token. get_actor_context and get_market_creation_guide return the approved principalId and authorityRef; use both exactly. Key/email API authentication remains an alternative. Access lasts at most fifteen minutes, with rotating refresh tokens bounded by twenty-four-hour consent. A person can disconnect through the deployment's connection-management page. Public-client dynamic registration is supported; remote client metadata fetching (CIMD) and payment scopes are not. The SDK accepts an externally obtained access token but does not perform the OAuth connection or refresh flow. See the OAuth guide for client requirements and one-use-token retry rules. ## Implemented market actions - Read the authenticated actor context and market-creation guide - Create a market draft with a server-assigned canonical market ID - Publish a reviewed draft - Cancel an open unfunded market before participation is accepted - Discover published markets and read their public activity - Submit a direct claim - Submit a private sealed bid - Submit, read, withdraw, and select private request-for-offers offers under scoped authority - Enter or withdraw a lottery entry and read selected candidates for creator review - Confirm or decline a commitment - Read a participant-scoped market outcome containing only that principal's receipts, offers, lottery entries, and commitments - Read the creator-authorized ordered market record - Queue bounded payment authorizations, inspect payment-operation status, and queue creator-authorized full refunds through configured payment integrations ## Implemented mechanisms - direct-claim.v1: first-valid allocation, optionally requiring confirmation - sealed-forward-auction.v1: private bids, timed close, second-price clearing, and winner confirmation - request-for-offers.v1: private proposals followed by requester selection after the offer deadline - lottery.v1: equal-weight selection from one active entry per principal, with immediate award or creator eligibility review; unfunded only The market subject is client-defined JSON. The same mechanisms can allocate supply, collect demand, or coordinate a service without domain-specific runtime logic. ## Request for offers The requester publishes a need, offer schema, capacity, offer deadline, and selection deadline. Each provider may keep one active private offer, withdrawing and replacing it before close. After close, the requester selects up to capacity; selected offers become committed agreements and other offers receive not_selected outcomes. Offer reads are private: the requester sees all offers, each provider sees only its own, and unrelated actors see none. ## Lottery Entrants enter before entryClosesAt with an optional HTTPS evidenceUrl. Use market:lottery_enter for delegated entry, withdrawal and own-outcome reads; OAuth connections must explicitly approve it. The worker freezes entries and uses one durable server seed for the draw and all promotions. Creator review returns selected candidates only. Decline requires a reason and promotes the next original alternate; expiry never promotes. The hard resolution deadline caps late review windows. Complete creator audits are unavailable while the lottery is open and reconstruct the seed, full order and awards after resolution. Evidence verification and prize delivery remain external; reproducibility does not prove independently verified randomness. See https://docs.ambient.market/lottery. ## Identity and authority Authentication establishes the actor. A command names the principal represented by that actor. When their IDs differ, the command must cite an active delegation containing the exact required scope. Ambient recognizes fourteen delegation scopes: market:create, market:publish, market:cancel, market:claim, market:bid, market:offer_submit, market:offer_select, market:lottery_enter, commitment:confirm, commitment:decline, commitment:refund, credential:issue, payment:authorize, and payment:register_payee_rail. Payment authority additionally requires a mandate that can bound the rail, currency, maximum amount per authorization, payee, market, and expiry. Payee registration is a separate non-spending authority. ## Transport behavior HTTP and MCP call the same command and query services. They share authority, idempotency, deterministic transitions, persistence, durable deadlines, privacy rules, and records. Repeat the same actor-scoped command ID and exact content to receive the stored decision; never reuse a command ID for different input. Public market discovery, snapshots, and activity do not require authentication. Private participation, participant outcomes, and creator records require current authority. ## Payment support Ambient contains a rail-neutral payment foundation for authorization, settlement, cancellation, refunds, bounded agent mandates, and recorded payment outcomes. Payment operations use configured integrations and remain separate from commercial agreement state. Request-for-offers prices can be recorded as agreement terms independently of payment state. See the payment documentation for the current rollout status of each funded mechanism and rail. ## Current limits A general account-management UI is not implemented; OAuth connection management lets a person review and disconnect approved applications. Ambient does not currently provide key rotation, portable W3C verifiable credentials, MCP signup tools, self-service production payee onboarding, escrow, partial refunds, participant-initiated refunds, disputes, chargebacks, fulfillment orchestration, offer negotiation, automatic provider ranking, or rolling selection.
